Reflection 5: snowy mountain

This lesson charlie and I used plaster and paris to make our mountain. It was a lot of fun making and our mountain turned out really well at the end of the lesson. When we were mixing it all up i was very surprised at how much we had to use in order to cover all of the chicken wire and news paper up! Our mountain is very tall so hopefully it looks good when we see it next lesson.

Reflection 4: Plaster of paris

This lesson Mr Ward gave us a lesson on how to make mountains and hills using plaster of paris. You first draw the shape on your board, role up some news paper, then cut out some chicken wire (with the tin snips). You use the staple gun to staple the sides of the wire on the boards and then mould the mountain shape with the newspaper. Then Mrs Ward showed us how to mix the plaster of paris with water and apply it onto the mountain. When he was done it took maybe 20-30 minutes to harden up.

The rest of the lesson charlie and I moulded our snow mountain with the wire and news paper.

Reflection 2:

Sustainable 1:

  • design big rather than build big

- high ceilings
-glass walls that open to the garden (borrows space from the outdoors
-high windows that light can shine through during the day so you don't have to turn on a light

Sustainable 2:

  • eco materials
- FSC wood ( know that the wood is stain-ably harvested)
- bamboo- grows really quickly used for cabinets and flooring

Sustainable 3:

  • energy efficiency
- need good insulation
- glass cuts down heat gain
- use proper sun shading for glass walls and doors

Sustainable 4:

  • water conservation
-different ways to conserve water n the kitchen and the bathroom

Sustainable 3:

  1. this just showed different modern lighting ideas.

Reflection 1: new year

This year our design task is to make and design a sustainable resort. Charlie and I are thinking about what design to do and we think we want to set out resort in the snow right next to mountains that you can go skiing on.
This is what we are thinking:
