Df Reflection-9
EVALUATION
FUNCTION:
definition: Does the aretefact do what it was designed to do, or does it peform effectively and efficiently...
My desk lamp was designed to be able to do a number of things for instance: be able to stand up by itself or as simple as the led strip to be pointing in the correct direction so it does not shine in you face. In the end my project was designed very well as it checked of all of these criterias.
AESTHETCS:
definition: Very Subjective (is often subject to personal tastes and/ or fashions of the times.Relate sto colour, shape, proportion, texture and other visuals aspects of the artefacts
When i was designing my lamp i was mainly focusing on the aesthetic point of view. Because of this, My lamp had to be designed completly different to everyone elses. Instead of a wood and alluminium stand i used acrylic plastic, This was so i could bend it to whatever shape i wanted so it would look nice.
ECONOMICS:
definition: The cost of materials, manufacturing, labour, advertising, transport, packaging, sales, administration.
The dot points below show how much materials i used...
ERGONOMICS:
definition: Relates to the artefact’s interaction with the human body.
Comfort, safety, convenience, ease-of-use, smell, taste, ease-of sight
The ergonomical point of view for my lamp is that way in which i pointed the direction of the LED lighting strip is that it is positioned down so that it does not shine in your eyes which means it is easier to work with.

Df Reflection -8
Today I wired together the led lighting strips to do this i used.....
- a solder machine
- some solder
- wires
- LED lighting strip
First i cut some LED lighting strip to the right measurement, then I put solder onto a LED strip than i soldered the wire to the lighting strip and finally Mr Ward helped me solder and tin all of the wires together.
Finally Mr Ward drilled a hole into the stand to poke the wires through. The lesson was very productive and i am now up to what everyone else is up to.
Next lesson i will probably stick something over the top of the wires so you cant see them.
Df Reflection -7
Today Mr Ward helped me bend my plastic stand. First of all i had to sand the edges of the plastic so it is nice and smooth before it gets melted. Then it was time to be bend, to do this i had to heat the stand. The machine i used for this was an oven. All i had to do was place the stand in the oven then take it out after 5 minutes then bend it. That took up the whole lesson, and i am now starting to get more excited about the finished product!!!!

Df Reflection-6
Today in class Mr Ward taught us how to drill holes into our lamps with a power drill it was very interesting as I did not realize that you needed three different types of drills to make a hole. However my lamp is different on that I do not need to drill any holes. So in class while everyone was drilling I was making my stand for my lamp. My stand for my lamp is going to be made out of plastic so today I was cutting plastic out in the shape I wanted it to be in. I also in this lesson cut my metal peice into the correct measurement. Next lesson I don't know what I will be doing but I hope some time soon I will get to bend my plastic. Over all I had a really productive lesson with a really big help with Mr Ward.

DF Reflection-5
ASSIGNMENT QUESTIONS:
The frequency of the EM wave determines the amount of energy it contains. Therefore, different colours of light have different frequencies and amount of energy

1.WHAT IS THE ACTUAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LIGHT OF DIFFERENT COLOURS?
2.DEFINE THE FOLLOWING LIGHT TERMS:

- AMBIENT LIGHT- The soft indirect light that fills the volume of a room with illumination.
- DIRECT LIGHT DIFFUSER-A light fixture, such as frosted globe, that spreads light evenly.
- LUMINOSITY-The intrinsic brightness of a celestial object (as distinct from its apparent brightness diminished by distance)
- ENERGY EFFICIENCY- Percentage of total energy input to a machine or equipment that is consumed in useful work and not wasted as useless heat.
- WATTS- The watt (symbol W) is a derived unit of power in the international system of units.
3. COMMENT ON GLOBAL WARMING:
Global warming refers to the rising average temperature of Earths atmosphere and oceans which apparently increase Global temperature, this will cause sea levels to rise and will change amount and pattern of precipitation/rain, and a probable expansion of subtropical deserts. Global Warming is caused by many things one of the main source of pollution/green house gases by the way is very relevant to the topic we are learning about which is Electricity. Electricity pollution is.......
- turning on a lamp
- turning on the t.v
- using the air conditioner
- playing on the computer
- heating a meal in the microwave etc.
The main point i am looking at is turning on a light. Turning on a light can supposedly cause green house gases which are then forced into the air creating electrical pollution. Some people today are creating lights that are energy efficient which can reduce the amount of pollution that goes up into the air.
4. HOW CAN THE MODERN HOME BE
COME MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT WITH REGARD TO LIGHTING?
As i said at the bottom of question 3 some
people are making lights that are energy efficient This means that their is less energy emitting from from a lamp or light. Types of bulbs can change how much energy is used as well. The two types of bulbs i am focusing on is the fluorescent light and the incandescent light. In the Table below shows the comparison of these two lights when used when looking at green house gases, power, purchase price, expected operating hours and electricity running costs per year approx.

In Modern day housing it would be better to install fluorescent lights rather than your everyday bulbs ( incandescents) to become more energy efficient.
5. RESEARCH A MODERN-DAY LIGHTING DESIGNER AND COMMENT ON THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO THE DESIGN WORLD.
KEVIN ADAMS.....
Kevin Adams is an American theatrical lighting designer. He has earned three Tony Awards for lighting design. Adams grew up in Texas and attended the University of Texas where is received a B.F.A in scenery design then attended the Califonia Institute for the Arts where he recieved a masters degree. He also worked as a set deigner at various theaters and in film in California, Before moving to New York. In 2007 he recieved the Tony Award for best Lighting of a musical for Spring Awakening. In 2008 he recieved the Tony Award for best Lighting design of a play. The in 2010 he recieved his third Tony Award for light deign of a musical. Here is some of his work...

Kevin Adams contributed a lot to the deign world as he as made so many musicals and plays a much better show with his creative and thoughtful ideas.

DF Reflection-4
Today in class Mr Ward gave us a tour of the Workshop, their was lots of new equipment wich looked scary! Some of the things i found interesting and did not know were........
WARDYS WORKSHOP:
- the new belt and disc sander
- i did not know that when a hot glue gun is laying down flat when it is on it can blow up.
When we were finished with the tour we started our lamps. Everyone started modeling their lamps with wire and a wood blocks however my lamp was not that easy. Because my lamp is so different to everyone else's, mine has to be built a different way.
I am questioning whether i should continue with this design or pick a different one.

DF Reflection- 3
Today in DF we continued with isometric drawings.I think i have become better at it. I drew some other ideas for my desk lamp. Because i took a picture of it and put it on my blog all of the words are back to front.

The Big picture is the lamp i am most likely am going to do but just in case that does not work I have to more to choose from. I like lamp that looks like a right angle in the left hand corner of the page, it looks clean and neat.
