Reflection 2

How to make a car go faster than another (create less friction):

- converting energy from the batteries to the wheels
- the lighter it is the faster it goes
- the more mass that is over the back wheels the less the wheels spin on take off
- test different combinations of gears to see which one goes faster
- coreflut can be used as the body of the car as a lighter alternative

Reflection 1:NEW TOPIC

This term in Df we will be building small cars that will be raced down a track. To make the fastest car you need to be able to decrease the friction between the car wheels and the track.
This lesson we learnt about how to calculate velocity:

Velocity: is the rate of an objects position with respect to time in a given direction.
V= displacement/time

Eg1:
A car takes 12 seconds to travel a distance of 50 metres. Determine the velocity of the car.
v=/d/t
T=12s
D=50m
V=?
v=50/12
v=4.2m/
therefore velocity is 4.2m/s

Eg2:
How long would it take a vehicle to travel 1000m if its average velocity is 15m/s
D= 1000m
V=15m/s
T ?
V=d/t
t=d/v
t=1000/15
1=66.67 sec
therefore time taken is 66.67s

Eg3:
Determine the displacement of a vehicle travelling 20m/s for duration of 1 minute. 
V=20m/s
T=60s
D=?
V=d/t
txv=d
60x20=d
1200m=d
therefore the displacement is 1200m or 1.2Km

Reflection 4: Evaluation of the Torch


EVALUATION:

 

A predominant issue that has been present in today’s society is the reoccurring assault happening towards women. A useful and important accessory that can increase the security of all women today can be a torch. By having a small torch that can be easily accessed at all times can be ideal in stressful situations. For example in dark corners trying to locate your key to get into a safer place, to identify strange people if they are coming to close and finally it can be used as a defence mechanism if your in a situation where you have to attack.

 

How I built my torch:

 

BARREL:

The completion of my barrel started by drawing one of the sides on a frontal work plane so it can be revolved. The width of the handle is 25 mm, I chose this measurement because it is small but still easy to hold onto and can fit into small places. The length of just the barrel is 115 mm. I then rounded the end of the barrel as well. To create the button I extruded a shape from the middle of the barrel on the frontal work plane that rounded the edges to make it easier to handle.

 

REFLECTOR:

The reflector was also assembled on a frontal work plane, the 2 sides were 15 mm and the width was made to fit perfectly in the barrel. When I finished drawing it I revolved it and then shelled it with a 2.5 mm edge.

 

LENSE/TOP CAP:

The lens was made by making a circle, then extruding it 8 mm then extruded it down about 6 mm. I did this so I could create an LED look. I did this by drawing circles on the face then duplicating them and finally extruding them up.

 

FINAL ASSEMBLY:

I added the barrel then the reflector and selected an edge from each and centred the axis. I did the same thing with the lens and moved it all together so they could fit.

 

Finally I really enjoyed this topic a lot as I improved my skills on pro desktop to a great extent from last year.
